Did you know...
that completing high school does not guarantee you a job, let alone your preferred job? Some employers are looking other qualities inclusive to academic achievements. It is very important that you go after a career that you are very passionate about and/or can see yourself fulfilled in for the long-term. You must also make yourself as attractive to a potential as you possibly can.

Junior Achievement Virtual Career Fair
Junior Achievement is pleased to announce our Inspire Virtual Career Fair February 8, 2022. This is more than your standard career fair; it brings together the business community and local schools and is designed to help launch students into their futures. With the virtual experience, students attend webinars and presentations, explore career booths, and interact with career speakers. This is a live event, but students who are unable to attend the live event will have access to the same information for 90 days after the event. Students, whether live or after, will have a virtual backpack to collect information from booths and other vendors to keep for later use.

"How can I figure out which career is best for me?"
A great way to start your exploration is to follow the C.A.R.EE.RS. guidelines:
  • C is for Careers. Think about what interests you. Be imaginative, then narrow it down.
  • A is for Academics. Determine which academic programs best suit your career goals.
  • R is for Research. Research careers that spark your interests, maximize your strengths, and minimize your weaknesses.
  • EE is for Experiential Education. Practice job search skills. Apply for internships. Ask for informational interviews, and try other work-based learning opportunities.
  • RS is for Relevant Skills. Use on-the-job experience to learn practical "real world" skills. Apply what you've learned in school to the workplace. Test which accommodations work best for you.

Follow these guidelines and while simultaneously developing your job skills so that you can compete in the competitive job market that you want to pursue!

Want career training while in high school?! Start here --> LRSD's Metro Vo-Tech Center

https://www.lrsd.org/Domain/41
Work-based learning is designed to help students focus on attaining experience in their career interest. This method of learning helps students develop job skills and hands-on knowledge of their chosen career. In some instances, students are able to acquire training hours that can be applied to an official certification!

The work-based learning is offered through the Little Rock School District at Metropolitan Vocational Technical Center. Metro's goal is "for students to achieve “real life success” no matter if they plan to go straight to the workforce after graduation, post-secondary opportunities, or even own their business." If you think you'd be interested in taking a course at Metro, contact your Guidance Counselor. You can also go to the Metro website for more information.
